Solu Village Trek

The Solu village Trek in the north-eastern part of Nepal is famous for its Sherpa resident which are surrounded by plentiful natural beauty.  Solu is famous for its biological diversity, virgin landscape and mountain vistas while the Khumbu region is famous for the world's highest mountain.  Solukhumbu has many exciting attractions in the southern region that are yet to be explored, such as the treks on the Dudhkunda Cultural Trails. The trekking to the Solukhumbu gives you not only the enjoyment of trekking but also the unique landscape above the tree line, ancient monasteries, and the opportunity to experience many different peoples cultures such as those of the Rai, Gurung, Magar, Newar, Tamang, Brahmin, Chhetri and Sherpa people. The Solu-Village trail is a classic approach to Mt. Everest since the route was taken by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, the first submitters of Mt. Everest on 29th May 1953. Due to the unique nature of this trek is offered year to year in every season.

The Solu Village Trek requires approximately 14 days and begins from the Phaplu or Kangel Danda which is typically reached by a 40 minute flight from Kathmandu. The next day the real trekking starts in the lap of the Mother Nature where we explore her beauty of natural green forests and mountain views. The first day of trekking ends at Basa Village at 2100m after a tiring 7 hour walk. Here home stay will make you comfortable and at ease with the delicious organic food and variety of vegetables available. The next day’s walk as approximately 6 hours in length to reach Nunthala at 2,580m. Here we take a rest in the local lodge. While passing through Nunthala we will visit the village of Babu Chhiri Sherpa who has climbed Mount Everest without the use of oxygen. This pretty village has nice views of the surrounding mountains. After reaching Nunthala the next destination for the day is Junbesi at 2,670m. To reach Junbesi you need to walk for about 6 hours. The next day is an early morning hike to Thutunchhli which includes a monastery visit. After a days rest at Junbesi we travel 6-7 hrs to reach Sete at 2,520m. After reaching Sete the next day we walk to Bhandar (2,200m). This is a beautiful place where the greenery abounds and natural pleasure is everywhere. The next day is another 6 hours of walking until we reach Shivalaya. Its name is from a temple of Lord Shiva which is located just over the next valley. Like most of the main villages on this trek, both Jiri and Shivalaya are located next to rivers, with mountain ridges between, thus this treks features a lot of ups and downs with few flat stretches on the trails. Resting on the East bank of the stream & Shivalya is a hamlet with a few nice lodges; they are all modest & pleasant. From Shivalaya to reach Jiri, it will take about 5 hours from where we can take a bus which will take us back to Kathmandu in about 8 hours.
