Trip Highlights

This lake holds significant historical importance for Hindu devotees, as it is mentioned in the holy book Ramayan. Situated in the Annapurna range in central Nepal, Tilicho Lake spans approximately 4 kilometers in length and 1 kilometer in width, nestled at the base of the 7,134-meter summit. Renowned as one of the most challenging treks in Nepal, the journey offers sightings of the Himalayan Thar (mountain goat) and the elusive snow leopard along the route. Tilicho Lake's breathtaking vista provides a profound glimpse into Mother Nature's artistry, showcasing a diverse range of vegetation zones from lush sub-tropical to harsh semi-desert environments. Moreover, trekkers traverse one of the world's highest trekking passes during the expedition.

Embarking from Besisahar, the Tilicho Lake Trekking route follows the Marsyangdi River, offering captivating views of the Manaslu and Himal Chuli peaks in the west. The trek is enriched by encounters with diverse ethnic groups inhabiting the picturesque villages along the way. Initially mirroring the Annapurna Circuit Trek, the path diverges at Manang towards the western main valley, passing through Khangsar Village (the Last Village of Nepal) before ascending to Tilicho Lake. Subsequently, the trail merges with the traditional Annapurna circuit, culminating in the crossing of the Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters.

The Tilicho Lake Trek commences with an exploration of Kathmandu's major sights before journeying to Besisahar/Bhulbhule, followed by a jeep ride to Syanga. Trekking alongside the Marsyangdi River, the route progresses through Manang Valley's prominent village of Dharapani. En route, diverse landscapes adorned with fir, oak, and maple trees lead to an overnight stay in Chame at 2,630 meters. Continuing, the trail traverses steep river valleys to reach Pisang at 3,300 meters, offering splendid views of Pisang Peak and Annapurna 2. The trek proceeds to Manang at 3,570 meters, where panoramic vistas of Annapurna I, III, IV, and Gangapurna unfold. Manang provides opportunities for monastery visits, village explorations, and interactions with locals. The journey continues towards Khangsar Village at 3,734 meters, followed by an ascent to Tilicho Lake base camp at 4,150 meters. En route, Gompa and small stupas offer spiritual encounters amidst panoramic views of Tilicho Lake and surrounding Himalayan peaks. The ensuing trek of 3-4 hours culminates in reaching Tilicho Lake, where breathtaking vistas of Gangapurna, Tarkekang, Khangsar Kang, Manang Valley, and Upper Pisang create cherished memories.

The expedition progresses to Tilicho Base Camp before trekking to Yak Kharka at 4,100 meters. Continuing onwards, the route leads to Phedi at 4,420 meters, followed by a trail towards Muktinath, a revered Hindu pilgrimage site. From Muktinath, the journey proceeds to Jomsom via Kagbeni, where an overnight stay precedes a flight to Pokhara, marking the conclusion of the Annapurna Tilicho Lake trek.
