The Dhampus Trek is a short yet scenic trek near Pokhara, perfect for travelers who want to experience Himalayan landscapes, traditional villages, and panoramic mountain views in just a few days. The journey begins in Kathmandu, with a scenic drive or flight to Pokhara, followed by a short transfer to Dhampus Phedi, where the trek officially begins. The route ascends gently to Dhampus village (1,770 m), offering stunning views of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) peaks, especially at sunset and sunrise. The trek continues through charming Gurung villages like Landruk and Ghandruk (1,940 m), known for their rich cultural heritage, traditional stone houses, and warm hospitality.
The descent leads to Nayapul, followed by a transfer back to Pokhara, with time to relax by the serene Phewa Lake. The tour concludes with a flight back to Kathmandu and a farewell dinner featuring traditional Nepali cuisine and cultural performances. Duration & Difficulty:
The Dhampus trek typically takes 5 to 7 days including travel from Kathmandu. It is considered easy and suitable for beginners, involving gentle ascents and descents with moderate walking distances (2-5 hours per day).
Altitude:
The highest point reached is Ghandruk village at approximately 1,940 meters (6,360 feet). Dhampus village is at 1,770m. The low altitude minimizes any risk of altitude sickness.
Best Season:
The best time is during Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) for clear mountain views and pleasant weather. The trek is also possible in other seasons due to its lower altitude.
Accommodation & Meals:
Accommodation is in comfortable tea houses/lodges in villages like Dhampus and Ghandruk, offering basic amenities and a chance to interact with locals. The package includes 2 nights in a Kathmandu hotel and 1 night in a Pokhara hotel on a bed & breakfast plan.
