The Rolwaling Trek is an adventurous journey through the remote and rugged Rolwaling Valley, nestled in the Everest region of Nepal. This challenging trek is perfect for experienced trekkers seeking a less crowded trail, pristine alpine landscapes, and rich cultural encounters with Sherpa and Tamang communities.
The journey begins in Kathmandu, followed by a scenic drive to Dolakha, the gateway to the valley. The trek follows the Rolwaling River, winding through lush green jungles and traditional villages like Beding and Na, where you can experience the unique culture, traditions, and warm hospitality of the local people. The valley is flanked by towering peaks, including the sacred Gauri Shankar.
Highlights of the trek include the stunning Tso Rolpa Glacier Lake, a beautiful turquoise gem surrounded by mountains, and the sacred Dudh Kunda lake. For those seeking an extra challenge, an extraordinary viewpoint from Yalung Ri peak offers unparalleled panoramic views of the Rolwaling Himal, including Gauri Shankar, Melungtse, and other giants. Duration & Difficulty:
The Rolwaling Trek is a 19-day journey and is considered challenging. It is suitable for experienced trekkers with good physical fitness, as it involves steep ascents and descents, high altitudes, and potentially harsh weather conditions.
Altitude:
The trek reaches high altitudes, with the Tashi Lapcha Pass (if included) at over 5,700m and viewpoints like Yalung Ri around 5,500m. Proper acclimatization, built into the itinerary, is absolutely critical.
Best Season:
The best times are Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) for the most stable weather, clear skies, and safer conditions for high passes.
Accommodation & Meals:
Accommodation is in basic tea houses or lodges in the villages along the route. Camping may be required in some sections. The package includes three meals a day during the trek and 4 nights hotel stay in Kathmandu with breakfast.
Permits Required:
You will need the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and a TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) card. These are included in our package and will be arranged for you.
Guides & Porters:
Hiring a local guide and porter is highly recommended for safety and support in this remote region. Our package includes an English-speaking guide and porter services (1 porter for 2 guests).
